The stats also say this: 50% of sales actually go towards the businesses that take the initiative and make the first <\/em>move, which is reaching out. It\u2019s not the other way around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buy Time\u2013 and Don\u2019t Rush to Close Deals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is a \u2018focus on the journey, not the destination\u2019 sort of technique. Some people are ready to hang up as soon as they realize they\u2019re being cold-called. Here\u2019s where a talented salesperson will arise. Don\u2019t rush through your script and hurry to close the deal. Customers don\u2019t want to feel forced. Instead, you want to concentrate on buying extra time on the phone with the potential buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You have\u2013 what: five seconds? when your potential buyer picks up the phone. We want to turn that into five minutes. It\u2019s another statistic: the longer a cold call is, the more likely you are to land a deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talk About Them<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s a stark difference between every other cold caller and you<\/em>. A technique that has the best chance of working is genuinely showing that you care about your potential buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This works by showing an interest in them and in their needs. Instead of trying to blurt out every detail about the product or service, talk with <\/em>them, and then show them how much you care about making their life easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have a Script Ready<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A cold calling script is exactly as it sounds: it\u2019s a pre-written spiel that you follow. This spiel should include all the information and details about the product that you need to present to potential customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorize your script, sear it into your memory\u2026and then try to act like it\u2019s not there. That\u2019s the trick with this strategy. You want to sound sincere. By extension, you want to make this script your own. Practice until it sounds smooth and natural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You also don\u2019t want to follow a traditional script format to the letter. Gone are the days of \u2018did we catch at a bad time\u2019 that leave an opportunity for someone to say ‘yes’ and end the call before it starts. Instead, studies show that opening the conversation with a \u2018how have you been\u2019 works much better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t Just Say It\u2013 Mean It<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is the follow-up technique to twisting the script until it sounds like your own. Whatever it is you\u2019re saying, whichever product you\u2019re selling, don\u2019t just recite the script, mean <\/em>it. You can\u2019t sell something you don\u2019t believe in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
